Russia leather

Vegetable-tanned leather made originally of shaved cowhide, later of calfskin, goatskin, sheepskin or horse hide, tanned with willow and other types of bark, then curried on the flesh side with birch bark extract to give it a pleasant but relatively short-lived odor in imitation of Russia calf. Its uses included for upholstery and for binding blank books.
