Scope and Contents

In 23 volumes. Records pertaining to the administration of the Bull of Crusade (Bolla della Crociata) managed by the prior of the Conventual Church of the Order of Saint John of Jerusalem, of Rhodes, and of Malta. Records include general ledgers, cash books, brogliardi (registers), letters patent, and loose papers. Related documents in the Archives of the Order of Malta, Series 13, Bolla della Crociata, at the National Library of Malta.

Historical Note

Documents produced for the administration of the Bull of Crusade. The prior of the Conventual Church of the Order of Saint John was general commissioner of the Bull of the Crusade (from 1744), papal bull that granted indulgences in exchange for alms, first for crusades and later for pious works and for supporting the Order’s naval squadron. The prior was helped by a treasurer, a tax collector, and some dealers (distributori).
